My Top 5 Favorite Movies

Okay, I love watching movies and I love (almost) every kind of movie too. Anything from depressing, heart-wrenching romance movies to action to classic black and white films (I even love corny Jaws knock-off movies). Basically it takes a lot for me to actually not enjoy a movie. I can pretty much find a redeemable feature in all of them be the soundtrack, cinematography, or a few lines I loved from the script.

I'm always super interested to know what other people's favorite movies are because I'm always on the hunt for new ones to add to my "must watch" list. I feel like I've gotten to the point where I've seen every movie worth seeing which makes me really sad.

So down below is a list of my top 5 favorite movies as of May 2015, in no particular order. This list was so hard to narrow down but I think I got it down to some really good ones!

1. Memoirs of a Geisha
"In the years before World War II, a Japanese child is torn from her penniless family to work as a maid in a geisha house. Despite a treacherous rival who nearly breaks her spirit, the girl blossoms into the legendary geisha Sayuri. Beautiful and accomplished, Sayuri captivates the most powerful men of her day, but is haunted by her secret love for the one man who is out of her reach"

I absolutely love this movie. It's one of those movies that I can literally watch over and over and not get bored of it. It follows a young Geisha named Sayuri through all of her struggles in her life and it;s absolutely heartbreaking. The cinematography is breathtaking and the acting is equally as amazing. The story just pulls you right in and it really hits you in all the feels. I've never read the book that this movie is based off of but I still love this movie nonetheless.

2. Howl's Moving Castle
"When an unconfident young woman is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent, yet insecure, young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking home."

Even though this is an animated film, I still think it is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The story is so cute and I really love every character in this film. Calcifer, the fire demon, is my favorite; I'm even planning on getting a tattoo of him! This film is from the director Hayao Miyazaki who also created the films My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away (two of my other favorites!). This is a perfect feel-good movie that I highly recommend anyone to watch!

3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
"A man, Joel Barish, heartbroken that his girlfriend, Clementine, underwent a procedure to erase him from her memory, decides to do the same. However, as he watches his memories of her fade away, he realizes that he still loves her, and may be too late to correct his mistake."

This is one of those movies that really speaks to me in such an emotional, indescribable way. Every time I watch this movie I just fall more in love with Clem, Joel, and their story. Plus, Clementine is a character that I relate with so much. I feel like we've all been in a place of such heartbreak that we have wished we could forget the other person. This movie shows what forgetting someone you once loved really feels like. You will definitely need a box of tissues if you watch this film!

4. Moulin Rouge
"The year is 1899, and Christian, a young English writer, has come to Paris to follow the Bohemian revolution taking hold of the city's drug and prostitute infested underworld. Things take a wicked turn for Christian as he starts a deadly love affair with the star courtesan of the club, Satine. Satine and Christian attempt to fight all odds to stay together but a force that not even love can conquer is taking its toll on Satine."

This is a pretty eccentric musical about two unlikely lovers. It's hilarious, weird, and heartbreaking all at once. This movie never fails to make me laugh and cry like a little baby. What makes this movie so amazing is how likeable the characters are. Throughout the movie you just find yourself routing for Christian and Satine, which is something I really love to feel in a movie.

5. The Avengers
"Nick Fury is director of S.H.I.E.L.D, an international peace keeping agency. The agency is a who's who of Marvel Super Heroes, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Nick Fury and his team will need all their powers to save the world from disaster"

Okay, this one is a no-brainer. I mean, I have a cat named Loki...
I just love pretty much everything about this movie. The cast was picked so well, I love the cinematography and the script was amazing. Marvel can do no wrong with their superhero/comic movies and this one definitely didn't disappoint! I saw this movie in theatres four times and I loved it each time. The next one already came out, Age of Ultron, and it was equally as amazing as the first! I highly recommend going to see it while it's still in theatres if you haven't already.

Bonus:
6. Breakfast at Tiffany's (because I couldn't choose just 5)
"Based on Truman Capote's novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry."

I almost never even watched this film because of how overrated I thought it was. But, when I finally watched it I understood why so many people love it. It's a masterpiece with the absolutely beautiful Audrey Hepburn starring in it. Audrey's acting is impeccable in this film and really gets you to love her character and feel everything she feels. I just love this movie so much, it's one that I think everyone should see at least once in their life (and it's on Netflix so you basically have no excuse!!).
